End of Parliamentary Term 2026

As this parliamentary term comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what parents and carers across Scotland have been sharing — not just about what needs to change, but about what’s possible.

Over this past period, we’ve seen the value of bringing parent and carer voice into national conversations, and we welcome the continued commitment to working together as we move into the next phase of education reform.

We’ve also seen the power of parent voice in action – thanks to Beth Morrison and her fight to pass Calum’s Law. The passing of the Restraint and Seclusion in Schools Bill is a significant moment and a reminder of what can be achieved when families, campaigners and politicians really work together with determination and purpose

As we look ahead, we hope to build on this progress by continuing to strengthen how parental voice informs policy and practice. Parents and carers bring insight, lived experience, and a deep understanding of what children need to thrive, and this should remain a key part of how decisions are shaped.

Looking forward, we see opportunities to:

  • Continue strengthening partnership between schools, government and families

  • Improve clarity and communication so parents feel informed, confident and able to engage

  • Build stronger feedback loops, so families can see how their views are making a difference

  • Support inclusive approaches that ensure every child feels they belong

  • Reach and include voices that are too often unheard

Most of all, we want to continue building a system based on trust, respect and collaboration.

Parents and carers are not on the sidelines. They are essential partners in shaping the future of education. We look forward to continuing to work constructively with the next Scottish Government to support positive change for children and young people across Scotland.
